What makes the Karoq really special is its VarioFlex seating system. You can slide, recline, fold, or completely remove the rear seats. The boot floor is nice and flat, making it super easy to slide heavy items in and out. Plus, those handy hooks and nets keep your shopping bags from playing dodgems on the drive home.
Skoda Kodiaq 5 seater
The Škoda Kodiaq in its 5-seat version is an absolute boot space champion. You’re looking at a massive 910 litres of space behind the rear seats. Drop the second row down and that figure grows to over 2,000 litres, which is more load-lugging ability than most families will ever need.
What really makes the Kodiaq stand out is how usable that space is. The wide tailgate opening and low loading lip make it easy to get bulky items in and out. Škoda also nails the family-friendly touches: you’ll find hooks for bags, underfloor storage, and even the option of a reversible boot mat to handle muddy boots or a wet dog.
Citroen C5 Aircross
Looking for a family car with a large boot that swallows everything from sports gear to double pushchair? The Citreon C5 Aircross won’t disappoint with its whopping 580-litre boot capacity. The rear seats fold down in a 40:20:40 split, giving you tons of flexibility. Need to carry those skis and still have room for passengers? No problem – the middle section drops down independently.
Toyota Corolla Touring Sports
An estate car but make it fuel efficient. The hybrid Toyota Corolla Touring Sports offers 596 litres of boot space with the seats up, and 1,606 litres when folded down.
There’s clever underfloor storage too, perfect for keeping valuables out of sight or stashing away those emergency supplies you hope you’ll never need.
Further options of UK 5 seater cars with big boots
Technically, these are not 5 seater cars. They are seven seater cars that have huge boot capacity if you only plan to use them as a 5 seater car. If you want maximum boot space and occasionally need extra seats, a 7-seater might actually be the answer.
Family 5+2 SUVs with Big Boots
If you’re looking for a car with occasional-use third row seats, the 5+2 layout can be a great option. These cars give you the flexibility of seven seats when you need them, but when the third row is folded away you’re left with a boot that rivals, or even beats, many full-size SUVs. Here are some of the standouts in the UK market:
Land Rover Discovery – The Discovery is at the top of the list when it comes to practicality. In five-seat mode, the boot offers around 1,137 litres of space, which is enormous and enough to handle bikes, camping gear, or a family holiday’s worth of luggage.
Peugeot 5008 – The 5008 is another standout, with around 916–952 litres of space in five-seat mode and over 2,000 litres if you fold down the second row as well. For a stylish SUV, it hides a very generous boot.
SEAT Tarraco – Closely related to the Kodiaq, the Tarraco also delivers a big boot, giving you around 700 litres when used as a five-seater. It’s not quite as cavernous as the Peugeot, but still very practical.
Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace – The Allspace is essentially a stretched Tiguan, and in five-seat mode you get about 700 litres of boot space. That’s a big jump over the standard Tiguan, and plenty for most families. (Note: the Allspace has recently been discontinued in the UK, so you’ll need to look second-hand.)
Land Rover Discovery Sport – A bit smaller than the full Discovery, but still very good for its size, the Discovery Sport gives you about 897 litres in five-seat mode, making it a strong choice if you want Land Rover practicality in a more compact package.
Mercedes-Benz GLB – Boxy in shape and smartly packaged, the GLB has a usable 570 litres of boot space when the third row is folded away. That’s less than the 5008 or Discovery Sport, but still practical for day-to-day family life.
Ford S-Max – A popular family choice for many years, the S-Max has around 700 litres of space when used as a five-seater, rising to over 1,000 litres if you load to the roof and around 2,200 litres with the second row folded flat. With all seven seats in place, you’re down to 285 litres, but in five-seat mode it’s impressively roomy. (The S-Max has now been discontinued, so you’ll only find it on the used market.)
Volkswagen Touran – More compact than some of the SUVs here, the Touran is still cleverly packaged and practical. With the third row folded, it offers around 743 litres of boot space, which is a very healthy figure for its size and makes it one of the most family-friendly MPVs on the used market. (Also discontinued, so second-hand only.)
The trade-off with a 7-seater or 5+2 is that you’re carrying a bigger car than you might actually need day to day. But if boot space is your top priority, they’re well worth considering — you’ll struggle to find a conventional 5-seater with anywhere near the same capacity.
